BURGRUINE GLANEGG
Fortress in Carinthia, Austria
Burgruine Glanegg, located in the County of Carinthia, is a historic castle first mentioned in 1121 A.D. Open to the public, the site stands as a testament to centuries of heritage. Around 25 years ago, a dedicated group of professional volunteers took on the enormous task of rescuing the castle from decay and bringing it back to life.
Target contributed towards the renovation costs to support the preservation of this national historic site, advancing education in the arts, culture, heritage, and science. Financial support for materials has come from various organisations, companies, and individuals, helping to restore Glanegg as a popular excursion destination.
In 2020, a new bell was cast in Austria for the beautifully restored Fortress Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul. Now electronically operated, the bell rings daily at lunchtime and in the evening, echoing through the valley. Grapes grow on the castle’s south-facing slope, with wine produced and sold within the fortress.
