KING’S COLLEGE LONDON
Guy’s Cancer Centre
London SE1 9RT
The Cancer Centre at Guy’s is committed to accelerating clinical trials, advancing research delivery, and increasing patient involvement to improve access for all. As an accredited specialist trials centre, it operates to the highest standards, supported by strong governance and expert clinical teams.
Target supports one research nurse and a clinical fellow at the Centre, helping to ensure every trial is delivered to rigorous scientific and regulatory standards. Patient safety and compliance are paramount, with all research quality assured under King’s College London’s specialist accreditation.
Training is central to the Centre’s work. Nurses and clinical fellows manage complex patient data and dosing regimes, requiring strong quantitative skills. Early-stage trials often involve serial dilutions and precise calculations, with strict protocols in place to ensure accuracy. New staff receive thorough training, as mathematical precision is vital to every aspect of the work.
Since opening in 2016, the Centre has provided world-class facilities for trials across all cancer types, with a focus on testing new treatments. Through Professor Spicer’s leadership of King’s Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC), his role as Chair of the Paediatric ECMC Strategy Group, and wider involvement in national networks, King’s plays a leading role in strengthening the UK’s cancer research infrastructure.
Serving a diverse population, the Centre prioritises studies that address cancers prevalent in its community, including lung and liver cancers. It also works closely with the King’s Cancer PPI (Public and Patient Involvement) forum, ensuring patients’ voices help shape research and improve trial access.
