SEAVIEW SAILING TRUST

Isle of Wight

Registered Charity 1198176

Seaview Sailing Trust runs a program designed to give children with limited access to water-based activities the opportunity to learn how to sail. Through this experience, children not only gain practical sailing skills but also build confidence, resilience, and both mental and physical strength.

All sessions are led by qualified instructors at Seaview Yacht Club’s training facilities. Each child takes part in a full term of sailing lessons, finishing the program with a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Dinghy Level 1 or 2 certificate.

The Trust provides these sailing lessons free of charge to children from state schools across the Isle of Wight. As part of the program, students also receive land-based instruction in navigation theory. Every year, one student from each participating school is awarded free membership to Seaview Yacht Club along with continued sailing tuition.

Mathematics is naturally woven into the lessons—students explore angles, navigation, sail measurement, buoyancy, and wind conditions. Practical applications of fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division become part of every session, reinforcing learning both on and off the water.
